WELCOME TO CAPITAL SLAM
Capital Slam is the second longest running slam series in Canada. Every year swarms of poets compete from September to April for a chance to represent Ottawa at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. Only twelve of the regular season competitors qualify for the semi-finals in May, only eight move on to the finals in June and only five are able to represent Capital Slam on the national stage. Along with the heated poetry competition, Capital Slam features local and/or national poetic and musical performers every month. Whether you are a seasoned wordsmith or simply a curious spectator, come and witness one of the most inspiring and enlightening events Ottawa has to offer.

Featuring:
2010 Toronto Poetry Slam Champion Fraser!
Bio:
Fraser is a language artist, teacher, hip hop emcee and youth worker. He has performed throughout Ontario and beyond, including at the Canadian Festival for Spoken Word and Hillside Music Festival with Plug Poetry. As emcee Soul Natural, his first album is forthcoming this summer. Music and poetry have always been a tool to connect with others, whether collaboratively as artists, conscientiously with fans, or by running outreach workshops in school, as well as group homes and drop-in centres with youth at risk. He recently won the Toronto Grand Slam Finals in April and is endlessly inspired by large groups of open minded people gathering to witness personal and revelatory poetry.
